Some excerpts:

A gentle and adorable feline named Shrek was discovered in a cat colony that was inhabited by feral cats however, he did not belong there as there were other cats. Due to that, Shrek was malnourished and had a lot of scars from cat fights. In addition the poor man had a partial blindness, and bags of goopy eyes which caused by a condition known as the entropion.

The story started with Emily Shields, the founder of Whiskers N Wishes Sanctuary in Marana, Arizona, took his name into the sanctuary. Given his peculiar appearance similar to the ogre from the animated film Shrek was named after him. Shrek.

Shrek’s story began with Whiskers N Wishes Sanctuary whose the founder, Emily Shields, took Shrek in from a colony in which the poor cat was abused by the other cats.

. . .After Shrek’s medical issues were resolved and he was adopted by an American couple living in New York, and now Shrek has a peaceful home living a cat’s living a comfortable life.

In addition to not having enough food, Shrek also had entropion that made it difficult for him to look.

He initially looked as follows (photo taken from the Wishesrescue Instagram account):

“Shrek lived within a community of cats close to an airport located in Tucson however, the cat was considered an outsider and was harassed. The cat was found by Courtney from Poets Square Cats, which has more than one million users on TikTok. I was at an theater taking in Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken with my kids. Courtney asked me to text her if we could accommodate a tom cat getting bullied.” Emily explained. Emily.

Emily was also able to describe the state the cat was in “Shrek appeared extremely rough. There was no food for him because like the other cats and his eyes were filthy and disgusting. Much like many male street cats, he’s positive for FIV. He looked like a mess.”

Shrek needed multiple surgeries as a result of his health condition. Emily clarified what was required and the reasons for it.

“Shrek suffered from entropion. It is when the eyelids expand upwards, and the eyelashes have a tendency to stab into the eyeballs. This is painful, and clearly made difficult for him to be able to see. He was neutered, and received shots. He had to undergo an eye operation and dental surgery,” wrote Emily.

Here’s Shrek after his surgery (photo from the Instagram account wishesrescue):

At the end of the day, Shrek had a happy conclusion and could forget his misfortunes from the past.

“Shrek was adopted by a loving couple living in New York City, who oversee his social media profiles. They are incredibly loved and has a wonderful life as a former Arizona street cat. His dad’s new arrival flew into Phoenix before driving to Tucson and picked Shrek up, returned then flew in New York all in one day in order to bring Shrek back home!” shared Emily lastly.

I am extremely grateful to the people who care for animals that are sick or mangled by giving them a pleasant living space with lots of food and vet attention.

Also, for your approval, two video clips. There’s a lot of cat videos that are funny (7 half minutes). My favorite moments are “pool cat” at 1:11, screaming cats around 1:20 flehmen cat at 229 drinking cat around 2:55, a banana-peel cat around 4:45, bath cat at 4:15 (what’s to do with that? ) Costumed cat at 6:16 “kissed cats” at 7:07 and the cat’s mess around 7:20.

***************

Then the video is 4 1/2 minutes long of terrified cats. My favorite: cat terrified by cucumbers after 10 seconds (I do not know for sure what’s the real phenomenon) and a sneezy cat around 1:19, bag cat around 1:04; lizard-inspiring cat around 1:10, and the toaster cat at 3:09. I’m not sure that people ought to intentionally scare their animals, as they are in the video.

Lagniappe The tale about Mrs. Chippy before, but readers Nigel provided a brand new link to her and went to the monument located in Wellington, New Zealand (I am shocked that I didn’t see the monument when I visited!) and also his own picture that he took in January

I’m a frequent reader of the blog, and I am impressed by the vigorous defense of the science I’ve learned from it. Keep doing what you’re doing. Given your love for cats as well as NZ it is possible that you are fascinated by Mrs Chippy although it is unlikely is something you’ve not heard about. This photo was taken last week while I visited.

This is the burial site of Harry McNish, knowb as “Chippy” because his work as a carpenter was part of Shackleton’s disastrous Imperial Trans-Antaractic Expedition from 1914-1917. Then he moved from New Zealand. New Zealand and died there in the year 1940. The grave of his remains is marked with an image of his beloved pet Mrs. Chippy, who was taken away by the crew when they abandoned the ship sinking. The cat-loving guests have left a few small stones that resemble hearts.
